Victorian Semi Detached Side Return and Internal Remodel

Darwent Architecture was appointed to transform this traditional Victorian semi-detached family home through a carefully considered extension and internal remodelling. The brief focused on improving the functionality of the ground floor while preserving the property's character.

The design centred on a new rear side extension and the reconfiguration of the existing layout to create a spacious, open-plan kitchen, dining and family area. By relocating the kitchen to the heart of the home, the scheme introduced an L shaped kitchen with central island, providing a natural hub for everyday family life. A new ground floor WC and cloakroom space were incorporated, enhancing practicality and well considered proportions allowed for a snug/ play area space without compromising the separate front living room.

Large glazed openings to the rear establish a strong visual and physical connection with the garden, flooding the interior with natural light and creating flexible, contemporary living spaces that meet the needs of modern family life while respecting the home's Victorian character.
