This project involved the sensitive conversion of a historic barn within the Peak District National Park to create a three-bedroom family home, incorporating dedicated home-working space and a separate playroom.
The scheme included internal remodelling and a change of use from agricultural buildings to a residential dwelling, forming an ancillary home to the main farmhouse and enabling multi-generational living in close proximity.
The existing structure was upgraded to meet current Building Regulations, with significant improvements to thermal performance and energy efficiency, through the installation of a Ground Source Heat Pump and carefully considered enhancements to the external appearance.
Central to the project was the long-term conservation of the former barn. By introducing a new residential use, the scheme secures the future and ongoing maintenance of the building, resulting in a functional family home that positively reflects the heritage significance of the 19th-century farmstead.
